- The Great Deodorant Challenge of 2009: Part Two
Another week, another deodorant. This week, I wore Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Care in Apricot. I was drawn to this particular deodorant, because in general I love Tom’s of Maine products. An ex-boyfriend I had introduced me to the toothpaste many many years ago. I had forgotten mine and he offered me his. I didn’t much like the taste at first, but it did the job. It was all natural…no bad chemicals in it. Years later, I learned that I was intolerant to whitening toothpaste and sensitive to most other toothpastes and Tom’s of Maine was what I finally ended up going back to. But now, I cannot find the toothpaste that I like to use of theirs…everybody, even Tom’s of Maine has succumbed to the peer pressure of whitening toothpaste. Even though they tout all natural ingredients for the whitening…I’m not going to try anything that would be even the slightest more abrasive to my mouth. So, now I use Trader Joe’s natural baking soda toothpaste…it works just fine and I can find it!
Anyhow, enough on toothpaste, back to deodorant. I chose Apricot, because it was the only scent I could stand out of their options. This was an Aluminum-free deodorant and they use Hops to keep away the bacteria that causes body odor…this deodorant is also touted to be Kosher and Halal…so my Jewish friends and Muslim friends can also partake in using this deodorant. I’ve never given much thought to deodorant having to be Kosher or Halal…but I guess you wouldn’t want to be using something you shouldn’t and I can’t imagine my last deodorant that made my pits itch being Kosher or Halal. So, there is much to be said about using Kosher and Halal items, even if you are not Jewish or Muslim…most times these food items and items deriving from food are better for you than the regular stuff…this keeps getting proven to me over and over, so there is something about it that makes it better.
This week, the pits were slightly sticky from the deodorant…I will overlook that. The smell after a day at work, wasn’t as bad as the TJ’s deodorant, but I did smell a bit like BO and Apricot. On the plus side, no itchy pits…so I think this is paraben-free as well. They don’t put it on the label, but I didn’t see any ingredients in the label that had a paraben. The bottom line is, this was better than the TJ’s unscented deodorant, but not quite there…I still want to continue sampling deodorants. This is the best so far, but I’m sure the organic world has another deodorant to offer me that may meet my BO and itchy pit requirements.
Next week, I will be trying out Jason Tea Tree Oil Deodorant. This is another Organic, Aluminum and Paraben free deodorant. So, stay tuned. Also, if anyone has any more ideas of organic deodorants to try, please give me a holler through the Contact page, my email (if you have it) or the comments.
