I’m a girl living in CA…and I’m technically inclined, so its only natural that I would have a blog, right?
Online Biography
I started out just fooling with AIM and email back in 1998, to talk with my friends from highschool, since I missed them so much at college. Then I learned about webpages and I thought, I bet I could make one of those…and thus began the beautiful relationship with web design. I looked into HTML and started making some really crudely designed pages, using other people’s images and of course, hotlinking (because I really didn’t know any better)…of course, when I figured that out, I stopped hotlinking.
When I wasn’t studying and hanging out with BFF, I was on AIM and in this MSN forum, called “Losers.” Eventually, I got tired of that whole thing and when I went to Cal Poly, I really didn’t have time to spend in forums, especially after I started working fulltime and going to school fulltime.
Sometime during the summer before I started at Cal Poly, Sexy Lexy introduced me to diaryland which was where my blog was born. Although, it didn’t catch on immediately, and I think it was because of the diary being public idea…so I had a private online diary, but it was kinda boring because no one was looking at it or commenting…so I made it public. But, I didn’t get many visitors, so I kinda grew tired of it and forgot about it and my posts were every 6 months or so.
Around that time, I started dating Disney Dave and the guy sucked the live out of me, I didn’t have any time to myself much less time to blog. So, I didn’t post much at all and during the year of 2003, I didn’t post anything at all, because I didn’t think I had anything good enough to post about. Disney Dave cheated on me and I was feeling pretty low about it and I didn’t want to reflect that in my blog, I wanted it to be full of happy memories and not upsetting stuff. After that year was up, I broke up with him and I rediscovered my blog one night.
I decided that the design was looking stupid and I wanted something different…I had just learned CSS at this point, so I thought I was hot shit with my skills. When I got sick of the new design, I decided to shop around and I found blogger and thought their designs were hot and I liked the way their site was set up for posting. Plus it was free, there was no paying for cool features like diaryland. So, after a trial run, I moved all my posts over (a small feat, since I didn’t post very often).
I started posting about my life and how I felt and my blog style really started to come out. I realized it was a kind of therapy and that sometimes you just can’t write about happy things, but thats ok, because its your place to talk about anything you want. Memories are memories and its important to remember the bad right along with the good, its the only way to learn our lessons and improve our lives by not making the same mistakes. Soon I got visitors, I started reading what other people wrote and I met some of the best people on this earth through my blog.
Nowadays, I just post about whatever hits my whim and I love it. I have my regulars that I love to read and I have a great time blogging. Eventually, I’ll start my own web design business, after the thesis is finished…and hopefully, I’ll get enough business to quit my job and do what I love to do, which is design blogs and write them.
